From March 5 till April 16 Ardvanderlinden exhibits in the red light district (temporary local showroom). We show flags, a movie and a statement behind the windows to spread the message 'unity through identity'.
On March 14, 15 and 16 we painted on the Oudekerkplein. People were invited to paint with us. The mayor of Amsterdam (EberhARD van der Laan) came along and we gave his son a flag. Inside we covered the walls with cardboard and visitors were asked to paint their own exhibition. We think making art connects and creativity is in everyone. Michel Foucault once asked himself: What strikes me is the fact that in our society, art has become something which is related only to objects and not to individuals, or to life. That art is something which is specialized or which is done by experts who are artists. But couldn't everyone's life become a work of art? Why should the lamp or the house be an art object, but not our life?
Ardvanderlinden makes art in order to contribute to the search for unity. Together with a lot of other people we are working towards one world with one humanity. On Friday we handed out flags with on one side a national flag and on the other side the flag of Amsterdam. The capital of the Netherlands is the most multicultural city in the world (177 nationalities).
Coming weeks it is possible to view the exhibition behind the windows 24 hours a day! In April we will again organize an outdoor event and the indoor exhibition will be open. More information will come soon.
